I left a teaser in a previous post about our plans for the field. After pondering our options over Christmas and seeing the sheep clearing down the overgrowth we’ve come to the conclusion that what we’d really like is to create more woodland out there. At the moment there’s a small copse (primarily hawthorn and ash) and in the spring it’s strewn with snowdrops and bluebells. We need to clear out some of the felled and abandoned branches and improve access but our aim is to be self-sufficient in fuel, grow our own Christmas trees and create a habitat for wildlife. We’d also like to keep some livestock alongside the trees – pigs, chickens and bees would work well.
